Jean and her husband Jock started Clippesby Holidays (as it was then known) back in the early 1960's, when they turned the old Batchelors Wing of the Hall into 4 self catering properties - Mendip, Cheviot, Cotswold and Chiltern. These four properties have since been turned into two larger much more stylish cottages and renamed.'East Wing Cottage' and 'Courtyard Cottage'. Over the years more conversions were made and 4 new Pine Lodges built to make Clippesby the place is it now. On top of all this, they also ran a busy garden centre from 1967 until 1987.
The first campers arrived at Clippesby in 1970 when a small clearing was made for just 10 pitches - and now 110 pitches later, the rest as say is history.
Jean was involved in all aspects of the business, regularly working in Reception taking bookings and welcoming guests. Many of Clippesby's customers these days are people that came to Clippesby with their parents and are now returning with their own children so it really has a family feel.
3 Years ago Jean took a back seat but is always around the park. Her love of people means that she can often be found during the summer evenings in the Muskett Arms chatting to old friends and new guests.
Although now officially 'retired' Jean is the warden of the village church 'St Peters' and a member of the Lakefield Singers, a choir who perform in the local area. Jean is also going to keep our blog updated with Clippesby Parish news - so watch this space!
